VERDICT: Balmacara built on the promise of his debut third at Newmarket when displaying a fine attitude over C&D to gain a first career victory. His ability to handle the ground will be very much in his favour, but having to shoulder a penalty in what might turn out to be a fairly deep contest could prove to be his undoing. Juddmonte boast two obvious chances with Upscale, who was runner-up on her sole start to leading 1000 Guineas contender Dance Sequence at Newmarket, and Stanage. The latter gets the vote as he is expected to be streetwise enough for this, especially with his close relatives Coventry winner Calyx and Sandringham heroine Coppice both winners on their racecourse debuts.
