VERDICT: Mahland has hit the crossbar on his last couple of starts, and he gets the vote to gain a well-deserved victory. Mel Rowley's charge found himself tapped for toe at a crucial stage before staying on into second over an extended 2m5f at Exeter last month and, nudged up 3lb back up to 3m, he edges preference. Better can be expected from Thunderclap, who finished down the field over 2m5f at Kempton in a stronger race than this most recently, while the reapplication of cheekpieces can help Longshanks.
