VERDICT: This is a strong beginners chase for the time of year and Ballyadam gets the vote. The Henry de Bromhead-trained gelding, arguably the pick of these over hurdles, was bought for big money by Cheveley Park after winning his point-to-point in good style. He won the Grade 1 Royal Bond Novice Hurdle back in 2020 and while failing to score since, has performed with credit in valuable handicaps of a mark in the high 140s. Hercule Du Seuil had Hamundarson well behind when runner-up to Senecia on his chasing debut over C&D earlier this month. Willie Mullins has another contender in Winter Fog, a facile winner of a handicap hurdle at the Leopardstown Christmas meeting. Galore Desassences was also decent over hurdles but didn't jump well when switched to fences at Wexford last time.
