Coltrane to be bang there at Royal Ascot

Coltrane to be bang there at Royal Ascot

Day 3 of Royal Ascot takes centre stage and here are the thoughts of our Long Shot tipster.

Coltrane has a very high Racing Factors rating of 67 at Ascot and has won 3 of his 6 starts here and placed in 2 too. He was a very good 2nd in this race last season and after an unsuccessful visit to Dubai in March he returned to Ascot to win the Sagaro Stakes in May. He had to dig deep that day to hold off his rivals, but should strip a lot fitter for that outing and be absolutely primed for today. Another factor in Coltrane's favour is the drying ground conditions, as he has some good form on fast ground. Coltrane looks set to run his usual big race at Ascot and rates a 4 star each way Pick.

The Britannia Handicap is often one of the most competitive races of the whole season and this years renewal looks no easier. Qirat showed some fair form as a 2-year old last year and was given a gelding operation in the winter. He returned to action at Goodwood in a handicap over 7f in May and came from off the pace to win going away by 1 1/4 lengths. That was an improved effort on what he has shown so far and only given a 4lb rise in the weights for that run could seriously underestimate his ability. His dam was a high class performer up to 1m and he should stay 1m really well. Look for him to be held up off the pace and come with a late surge. Qirat rates a 4 star each way Pick.

Son Of Man showed some very smart form last season as a 2-year old and wasn't beaten far at all in a group 3 race at Newmarket. Thing's didn't go to plan for him at Haydock on his seasonal reappearance where he got hampered throughout during the home straight. He bounced back to form at Goodwood next time where he chased home a rival that had got first run on him, again over 7f. He looks a horse that should improve significantly now being stepped back up to 1m and returning to good to firm ground conditions. Son Of Man looks to have the scope to improve past his current rating of 95 and can play a part at the finish. Son Of Man rates a 4 star each way Pick.
