Holloway Boy to strike at Royal Ascot

Holloway Boy to strike at Royal Ascot

Day 2 of Royal Ascot take centre stage and here are the thoughts of our Long Shot tipster.

Holloway Boy was a 40-1 winner on his debut here at Royal Ascot 2 years ago and then ran some fair races in pattern company including when 4th in the Jersey stakes here the following year. He has ran below par on both runs so far this season, however perhaps the ground and the way those two races panned out didn't quite suit him. Back now at a track he has gone well at and likely to get plenty of cover in a big field handicap, things might just drop right for him and if so, he certainly has the class to play a part in the finish. It is interesting to note that his shrewd stable had a number of possibles for this race but rely just on Holloway Boy. Holloway Boy rates a 4 star each way Pick.

Daysofourlives climbed the handicap ranks last season as a 3-year old, winning twice and showing improvement. He has ran well when returned to action this year, finishing 3rd at Newmarket in April and then 2nd at the same track over 1m2f in May. On both occasions he took plenty of stoking up by his jockey, but kept finding for pressure to run on well at the finish. Now his trainer tries visors for the first time and they could have a big effect on his concentration. Also the likely strong pace in a big field handicap might help him move through his race a bit better. If it all clicks then it's not hard to imagine Daysofourlives staying on very strongly at the end of this race. Daysofourlives rates a 4 star each way Pick.

The regally bred Doha by Sea The Stars out of Arc winner Treve may well have been expected to be running in one of the group 1 races at this meeting, however she has been given plenty of time by her trainer and now finds herself in handicap company off a mark of 85. She returned to action with a good 2nd at Haydock over 1m2f on soft ground and it looked that day that she might not have got home in the conditions. With that run under her belt and now returned to 1m she may well have a lot more to offer and it would be no surprise if she wasn't miles better than her current handicap mark. Doha rates a 5 star each way Pick.
