Day 1 of Royal Ascot takes centre stage and there is an excellent card on offer. Here are the thoughts of our Racing Factors tipster.

Big Evs won the Windsor Castle stakes as a 2-year old over this very track and distance last season and continued to improve throughout the year culminating in a win in the Breeders Cup Juvenile turf sprint. He showed he had trained on well as a 3-year old when making a winning reappearance at York last month and that run would have teed him up perfectly for todays contest. An uncomplicated sort, Big Evs can be ridden anywhere and has a real telling kick at the end of his races. In a race that appears not be as strong as past renewals Big Evs stands out as a potential sprinting star. Big Evs rates a 4 star win Pick.

Rosallion was a very smart 2-year old and one of his winning efforts came here at Ascot in a listed contest in July. He has since gone onto much better things and has improved into a top class 3-year old. Rosallion travelled like the best horse in the race at Newmarket in the 2000 Guineas, only to get ran out of things in the final furlong by one of today's rivals Notable Speech. Rosallion then went to the Curragh and put in a very smart performance to come from off the pace and get up in the dying strides. He showed a very good turn of foot that day and the round course here at Ascot might suit him even better as he is a horse that has a high cruising speed and very good acceleration. Rosallion rates a 4 star win Pick.

Fox Journey was brought along steadily in handicaps last season, but improved with his racing and also when being stepped up in distance. he ran well to finish 3rd in the Melrose Handicap at York amongst some other solid efforts. However he looked a different horse on his seasonal reappearance at Newmarket in May, where he made all the running and stormed clear of his rivals to win by an impressive 11 lengths. The handicapper responded by putting him up 9lbs for that win, but that may not be enough to stop him today. Fox Journey's stable are very good at improving horses from handicap company to pattern class and it could well be that he ends up in pattern company this season. Fox Journey rates a 5 star win Pick.
