Pocklington won on his racecourse debut over 6f at Newcastle in good style and followed that up with another win in novice company when beating the now 102 rated Army Ethos by 1 1/4 lengths again over 6f. He was then sent to Newbury to run in listed company and finished a fair 5th of 14 back in May. Connection then decided on a tilt at Group 1 level at Royal Ascot but he was ultimately well held finishing 10th of 14 in the Commonwealth Cup. Given a short break and a wind operation he is now sent handicapping on what could be a generous mark of 96. He get's a handy 2lbs from his older rivals and could have a good draw in stall 21 up against the near side rail to attack from. The slight drop back in distance is no problem as he shows plenty of speed in his races and infact might improve for it. Pocklington rates a 4 star each way Pick.

Great Bedwyn showed some fair handicap form last season but seems to have improved on that this year, especially since being gelded. He won at Newbury 2 runs ago over 1m4f beating an inform and progressive rival into 2nd by a nose. He then went to Goodwood where he was perhaps further back than ideal before staying on very well to take 3rd of 13. He is now stepped up to 2m for the first time, a move that could well unlock some more improvement and one that looks sure to suit considering his dam stayed 1m6f. A nice galloping track such as York should suit Great Bedwyn and he can get back into the winners enclosure. Great Bedwyn rates a 4 star each way Pick.
