VERDICT: In a wide-open contest the marginal preference is for Northern Express, who won over 7f here in June and he was not beaten far at all over the same trip in the International at Ascot two starts ago. He is now 1lb lower than when seventh in a valuable contest over C&D at the Ebor meeting and he merits plenty of respect. Empirestateofmind could prove to be the main threat based on his second last time, although Cruyff Turn and Substantial are others high up on the shortlist.
