Menuisier has Classic trial in mind for promising Janey Mackers

David Menuisier expects to find out if he has a Classic contender on his hands when Janey Mackers runs at ParisLongchamp later this month.

The Pulborough trainer will return to his homeland with the filly – who bolted up in a Doncaster maiden on her second start in October – for the Group Three Prix de la Grotte over a mile, although which trip the daughter of New Bay will prove best suited remains to be seen.

“She’s coming along nicely, the chances are we’re going to run her in a trial in April,” said Menuisier.

“I’ve pretty much made my mind up that we’ll go for the Prix de la Grotte at Longchamp on April 13.

“Some big names are probably runners in the race, but we need to see where we are, so that will be her first run of the season and that will define the rest of the spring.

“We can live in hope that she is the new Tamfana. Tamfana was already a black-type filly by now and it is never too clever to make comparisons, but we need to see where she fits in the trial.

“Last year, I would have bet my left arm she would want 10 furlongs this season, but having strengthened up in the winter, I have a doubt, as it looks like she might have gained a bit of speed.

“She’s entered in the Guineas, as well as the Prix de Diane. She might get an entry in the Oaks as well. She’s definitely showing some talent, but until you rub shoulders against the best, you never know where you are.”
